about

Archival edition officially licensed by Wiliam Goldstein. Recorded with an authentic Roland MT-32 in partnership with William Goldstein.

When Wiliiam Goldstein and I first conversed, I had no idea that he had released his own version of the soundtrack only a few months prior from an old DAT tape he had, on which the music was recorded while someone was playing an actual final version of the game. This was a disappointment to both of us. Nevertheless, William, still owning the music rights, was happy with the thought of a more-complete archival edition, and the music was licensed for its production. Unfortunately, at the time of the publication of this archival edition (as is still the case today), William Goldstein has not be able to locate the original MIDI files. Therefore, I have had to resort to using the music files extracted from the final versions of the game.

Some of the music varies slightly between versions of the game (mainly due to errors), and there were some errors that were never fixed. I have taken the time to fix these errors and compile as many versions of the music as possible, to make this the most-complete version currently available. Should the situation change that William is able to locate the missing files, this soundtrack will be prompty updated.

Due to the hardware limitations of the Roland MT-32 causing polyphony problems, if necessary, each channel has been recorded independently and then mixed into a single track. Therefore, no notation data is lost through polyphony limitations and the tracks may be heard at their fullest.

Since the original files could not be located, the track names have been created by myself and should not be considered official at this time.

NOTE: This soundtrack has been updated since it's original release, with an MT-32 version of "You're a Pirate!" having been found, and the timpani having been restored from the "Best Ending", which was for some reason accidentally muted in the game data, but was heard on the official Sierra "Lounge" recording.

Bonus material:
(#1) Detailed archival tracklist.

The archival soundtrack series contains all known music from said title, including 1 second jingles, unused music, beta versions, and more.

Soundtrack and any bonus materials may not be re-distributed elsewhere without the express permission of Xeen Music.
